Welcome to Beyond My Tribulations

Hi, my name is EK. I’ve created this blog because I want to share my story—how I navigate each day, sometimes thriving and sometimes barely surviving, with Complex PTSD.
I’ve had many complicated and, at times, harrowing experiences in my life. While they may have pushed me to the brink, they have never completely broken my spirit. That, to me, is both an incredible miracle and a bit insane. But I’ve learned that no matter how tough it gets, I keep going.

What This Blog Offers

This blog is a space where I document my mental health journey. It’s part journal, part survival guide, and part community. I’m still a work in progress—trust me, I’m not “cured,” and I don’t think anyone ever truly is.
But as I continue healing from trauma, I want to share the tools, strategies, and experiences that have helped me along the way. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Trauma healing techniques that have worked for me, including grounding exercises and creative outlets (like knitting, which has been a lifesaver).
  • Coping strategies for Complex PTSD and managing daily life with trauma.
  • Personal stories, where I’ll always strive to be honest—even when the truth is messy and uncomfortable.
  • Humor and lightness, because sometimes, laughter is the best therapy. Expect some dad jokes, bad puns, and moments of dark humor to balance the heaviness.
  • Some posts may discuss sensitive topics, so I’ll always provide content warnings to help you take care of yourself.

Heart Chakra Healing and Emotional Trauma Recovery

As part of my healing journey, I’m focusing on my Heart Chakra which, in my case, is the chakra that needs more TLC than my Wi-Fi connection. I will also be working through my anxious attachment patterns. These aspects of healing are a significant part of where I’m headed, and I’ll be documenting my experiences with them in upcoming posts. If you’re navigating similar challenges, I hope you’ll find connection here as we heal together.

How Humor Helps in Healing from Complex PTSD

I want to be upfront: I’m not perfect. In many of my stories, I’ve been in the wrong. I’m learning to take accountability and be honest about my mistakes. But one thing I’ve learned is that healing from trauma isn’t always pretty—it’s messy, emotional, and sometimes painful.
But here’s the thing: there’s also light. Humor has been one of my main survival tactics. In therapy, I always take the last few minutes to share something funny. It helps me leave the session feeling lighter instead of overwhelmed.

Whether it’s dad jokes, bad puns, or moments of dark humor, laughter has been a lifeline for me, and I’ll share plenty of it here.

Calming Strategies: Knitting, Breathing, and Grounding Exercises for Complex PTSD

One of my favorite coping strategies for Complex PTSD is knitting. It’s not just a hobby for me—it’s a grounding technique and a form of meditation. As this blog evolves, I’ll be sharing some of my knitting-while-breathing techniques. It’s a bit like therapy, but with more yarn.

Additionally, when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I use grounding techniques to bring myself back to the present moment. One that works really well for me is the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise:

  • 5 things you can see around you
  • 4 things you can touch
  • 3 things you can hear
  • 2 things you can smell
  • 1 thing you can taste

This simple exercise helps me refocus and reconnect with the present moment, especially when I’m feeling triggered or anxious. For more grounding techniques, check here and I’ll share a more thorough guide in future posts.

A Note on Privacy and Reclaiming Strength

For the sake of honesty, some names in my posts will be changed—not to protect the guilty, but because they don’t deserve any more credit for the havoc they’ve sown. And yes, some people might think every story is about them. (Cue the “You’re So Vain” chorus! 😂)

But here’s the thing: those people no longer hold power over me. Sharing my story is my way of reclaiming control, and I’m doing it for me—not them. And if it helps you feel less alone in your own trauma healing journey, then that’s even better.

Join Me on This Journey Toward Healing from Complex PTSD

Healing is not a linear process. It’s filled with ups and downs, and sometimes it feels like two steps forward, one or even a hundred steps back. But I believe in the power of sharing, connecting, and supporting one another along the way. If you’ve ever faced trauma, I hope this blog becomes a safe space where you feel understood and supported.

What strategies have helped you during challenging times? I’d love to hear your thoughts or stories in the comments below. Let’s connect, share, and support each other as we navigate the path toward healing.
Stay tuned for more stories, coping strategies, and insights from my experiences with Complex PTSD recovery. And yes, plenty of memes and bad jokes will be involved.
Stick around—it’s going to be a wild ride, but at least we can laugh along the way!

Residency Night One: Back From the Brink

Hey. I almost started this post poetic and heavy—but honestly? It feels more like a comedy special with hospital gowns, pudding negotiations, and a few life-or-death punchlines. This is the overture to my breakdown-and-breakthrough series: the messy, funny, painfully real story of falling apart and finding proof of life again—one laugh, one pudding cup, one post at a time.
